to initiate the mediation process? given that you have
not contacted me to say "yes" i assume the answer is
implicitly "no" but it would be good to confirm that
you have had zero contact.
just so you are aware, Jacob and i are so intimidated
by these people and their stalking of our public mailing
list that we have been completely unable to work for over
five weeks (myself: since 4th march after
going into catatonic shock around 3rd march in
Southampton Central police station)

Open instruction sets like RISC-V and OpenPower make CPU design much more
accessible. Consequently, in recent years, many projects emerged to develop
free and open-source CPU and SoC designs. Through the lens of SpinalHDL,
VexRiscv and NaxRiscv (all projects initiated by the speaker), this webinar
will introduce the kind of tooling which is involved in designing a CPU and
deploying it on hardware. He will also delve into the related challenges,
the similarities and differences between libre hardware and software
development, how the industry interact with open hardware, as well as the
difficulties that the scale of such project creates.

Tech talk with Andrew "bunnie" Huang on IRIS: an open hardware project to
verify chips

Dr. Andrew 'bunnie' Huang is a well-known researcher and hardware hacker,
widely reputed for hardware projects such as the Chumby, the open laptop
Novena and the betrusted/Precursor mobile platform which contain novel
hardware and software security enclaves. He is a recipient of the EFF
Pioneer Award for his work in hardware hacking, open source and activism.
He authored several books, such as 'Hacking the Xbox: An introduction to
Reverse Engineering' as well as 'The Essential Guide to Electronics in
Shenzhen'.
Currently bunnie is working on IRIS (Infra-Red, In-Situ) inspection of
silicon, a project to facilitate the non-destructive verification of
silicon chips. The goal of the project is to give people a tangible reason
to trust their chips. In this webinar he'll introduce the project but will
leave most of the time for interactive Q&A as he is interested to hear what
people think about IRIS and would like the project to go.

Of course, you and every other project in our portfolio are diligently
writing documentation and helping people on IRC, XMPP etc. Some more
complex things are however best conveyed with someone knowledgeable
explaining it in person, bite size - and with the ability to interact.
Are there specific topics you would like to see a talk on, and you know we
have the right speaker - but they are never presenting at the (online)
events you attend? Why not request or suggest a talk?
Of course if you yourself have a good talk ready to deliver, and you
believe it is the right time for your project to be put into the limelight
and have the wider community get to know your project - also contact us. If

Travel grants and stipends for trips to the USA and Canada
==========================================================
Many projects have community members and partners around the globe,
including in North America. In some cases, that might be even core team
members. And of course remote collaboration goes a really long way, but
sometimes more is needed or desired.
You might therefore be interested to make a trip and work in person with
folks over there for a couple of months. Or (if you are from the USA or
Canada), to have one or more of your contributors come over. Or open up to
new people...
Within NGI Zero, we don't have any possibility for such missions. However,
because the European Commission has signed various collaboration agreements
with the USA and Canada, you might be in luck still.
Thanks to the EC, there are several auxiliary possibilities for funding for
NGI projects like yours who wish to collaborate with organisations in the
USA or Canada. There are currently two programmes [1] [2] up and running,
while a third one is in the making [3]. This means dedicated grants for
Europeans to stay and work there, with travel, visa and insurance paid and
a monthly allowance during the period. So essentially a neat trip to expand
your or their horizon beyond Europe [sic] - and spend quality time across
the translantic ocean with some organisation friendly to your project.
This is a fairly luxury arrangement, we believe. Even if you got just a
small grant from us, you could qualify for a much larger sum. The way it is
presented, can be a bit obfuscated though. To be clear: NLnet has nothing
to do with these programmes, they are operated by third parties. However,
by virtue of being a grantee of NGI Zero - you do qualify for the programme.
NGI Enrichers [1] is aimed at providing travel stipends to individuals -
which are defined as residents/taxpayers in EC member states including
their outermost regions, overseas countries and territories, Horizon Europe
Associated Countries and Switzerland. The monthly lump sum living allowance
is EUR 3.800 for every full month of stay. Other expenses like the trip are
paid up to some maximum.
NGI Sargasso [2] is a twinning programme, which means you need to have a
legal entity on both sides of the Atlantic and these apply as a consortium
to collaborate. The European partner then gets paid. Let us know if you are
interested but don't have any foundation/association/SME/university/etc
able to help out, we might know someone.
Important: for both active programmes you need the right American and
Canadian organisations to apply to be hosts. Being a host means they don't
directly receive money, but they do enable the people they want to work
with to land within their organisation. The programmes obviously also have
some default hosts, it is best to bring this along. There is no cost to
being a host.

Mind the end date of your grant
===============================
This is a kind reminder that while we don't tend to chase your tail on a
daily basis, your grant does have a validity date. While we are fully aware
that everything takes it time, and we don't want to pressure you too much -
keeping track of your planning is important. If your grant nears the 'best
before date', there is no need to panic if you keep us in the loop.
Funds that aren't claimed at the end of the program simply go back to the
European Commission, instead of being used for free and open source
projects. And for us it has some unwelcome financial consequences as well.
So please do us a favour and contact us soon if you are unsure you will be
able to finish all of your project. We can either help you speed up, prune
or reallocate (part of) the funds to other deserving efforts in the free
and open source community.
*Note that you are part of NGI Assure, a three year programme which is in
its fourth year right now and which has a hard stop this summer. This means
it is important to act now, if your project is not yet completed.*
