https://www.archlinux.org/packages/community/any/debootstrap/

apparently, if that's correct, debootstrap is available for archlinux
in the community repo.  so you shouldn't need to go the trouble of a
virtual-machine-then-a-chroot.

the instructions for bind-mounting /dev, /dev/pts etc. should all work
perfectly fine as well.
