i have no idea why when evaluating alternative architectures that OR1200
did not impinge on our collective tiny minds.

now, the reason why i mention it is because i feel it is important that we
do proper due diligence. committing to a particular architecture is such a
major step and one that we really cannot back out of once made.

the biggest reason for considering powerisa is because there exist full
distros available. debian packages have been available for a long time.

openrisc has buildroot which is a start however not a lot beyond that
(distro wise). there exists llvm-or1k, there is SIMD / Vectors, FP64,
FP32, and more.

it also (go figure) has a long-standing open and active community, unlike
both RISCV *and* PowerISA.

the lack of an actual full distro for or1k means that we would actually
*need* RV64GC userspace. this does not make me very happy however i will
get over it.

i am leaning towards creating a proper evaluation table, here, of the
different archs and things we need.

what sort of things should go in it?

l.
