in your mailer, just hit "reply".  however if you have subscribed "nomail"
(or digest) you will of course not be receiving messages to which you *can*
reply.

the trick then is to look at the archives, for example here:
http://lists.libre-riscv.org/pipermail/libre-riscv-dev/2020-January/003408.html

and the first link, with your email address, if you mouse-hover over it,
you will see "mailto:etc.etc.etc.".  this is what you need to click on.  it
contains the crucial "reply-to" threaded information that will retain the
thread context.

without that "reply-to" header, as you're finding out, each message is
separate and you deluge the list (and its members, and the archives) with
dozens of separate and distinct threads, all with the same subject-line.
