A very refined and polite way of what explaining I was getting at earlier: "In some sense, you're going back to the graphics system we had, and using the new stuff cargo-cult style."

I do hear you that the path you are choosing is for compatibility, inefficiencies aside.  Your vision is better than mine, I'm sure.  I'm just weighing in on what I see.
