rats forgot about bug #1183, the locations where the assembler is
sub-optimal (5 instructions instead of 1) needs to be cross-referenced,
bugreport raised if needed.  the important thing here is to document
what was discovered. implementation can come later (different bug,
or even different grant), but documenting and capturing the advances
is *real* important.
