(jacob, i have to share this with you: i too went through similar experiences
during my early career.  i have done exactly these things.  i had to learn, and
am happy to share the results with you.  for me, they were... hard knocks, and
yet i actually ended up appreciating the fact that managers, other libre
developers etc. actually took the time to explain things to me, because i
understood that they were important.  i trust that you understand this too)
