also, having the comment text at the same level as the """ gives the false
impression that the comment is somehow executable (part of the function).
by indenting it, a clear vertical indicator is given that the start and
end """ string-markers can be used to help a reader very rapidly locate
where the comment begins.
if that convention is not followed, the reader has to spend far more time
than is strictly necessary, parsing the text and wondering where the heck
the comment actually ends.
vertical alignment is far more important in python than in other languages,
not just for the code itself, there are conventions that dramatically increase
readability.
