yes, i realised about half an hour later that we may have been speaking at 
cross-purposes, due to a misunderstanding that there's four separate 
potential Platforms here, covering each of the specialist areas.  very few 
people have *3D* optimisation experience [we're lucky to have Mitch 
involved].

sorry for the misunderstanding, Andrew.  follow-up question (already 
posted) seeks clarification.
