Theyre a separate function anyway.
Earlier in process, way earlier than
rounding.

Lets start with the c code,
Convert to python.
Can you add separate fn taking
block of code from softfloat link
Commit as-is first then try doing
straight conversion.
check jondawson verilog code
for notes on what INF means,
what NAN.
Piece together. will help tomorrow.
